Near the site where the lower town gate used to stand, in the short Innocent Street below the square, there are bizarre timbered houses set into the slope, whose style is associated with the countryside rather than a town centre. These houses probably originated in the 17th century and constitute typical examples of the vernacular architecture of the Šumava region, as well as the oldest specimens preserved in the Vimperk area. They were thoroughly restored in the 20th century.
